Deck + Dock since launching?

Greetings,

I'm concerned about the Dock since I'm barely seeing any info about it.

Will the Dock be able to ship along with the Deck since launching?
Or, at least, at the same time in separate orders?

Thanks.

Hi, so far they didnt show the dock beside basic information or gave any hint when this would become available.

But Valve said that you can use any USB-C Dock thats on the market already ;)

Yeah.... that's the problem.
I don't want to pay twice, and I prefer Steam's Dock.

At least if we had an ETA I could choose between getting a cheaper/less-capable one to stick with until the Dock arrival, or go for a fullEquiped-powerfull-OMG dock and print a stand.

I assume I shouldn't be expecting it any soon since the silence there is about it, right?

Unfortunatly no info other than what you find on the Deck site have been provided about the Dock.

I want it too and I'm still hoping it will be possible to buy it together with Deck.

Consider we're talking about Valve, sporadic communication (or even none at all) is just their MO so we might get the Dock in time with the Deck or maybe they won't sell it for a year!

Given that no additional information has been revealed, I can only surmise that little to no effort has been expended into dock development and that the entirety of Valve's attention is focused on the Deck itself for right now. I'm personally in no hurry, but I can understand why many would like to have that purchase option right away - of course, there's a ton of cheap USB-C docks on Amazon, they just aren't made by Valve.

What I'd really like is for Valve to surprise us with a dock that allows for mounting the unit upside down, along with an automatic trigger to rotate the screen and controls 180 degrees. This feels like a much more elegant solution than what appears to be a periscope right-angle connection at the top.

You should look for a Higher Quality Dock. I believe companies like Anker would be a good start to look for a fitting USB Hub since I believe they know of the importance of stable and clean power delivery.

???

1st) Are you willing to use the Deck while in the Dock?
2nd) Are you willing to use de Deck controls upside down?

Both sounds terribly unconfortable to me.
Or I understanded it wrong.

About rotating the screen, I already thought that. Would be great.
But it can be done almost effortless to the user even if Valve doesn't support it natively/automatically.

Good questions, and it made me realize that a dock won't necessarily mean the same use case for different folks. For myself, I was thinking of the dock purely as either mount for playing games on a larger monitor, or to use as a desktop computer. In those two cases, you wouldn't physically interact with the deck very much, except to use it as a second screen (so, rotate display), and if for some reason you did use the touchpads or sticks, they'd need to behave inverted so that left/right/up/down behave as expected.

Yeah, I mean. I intend to use it way more as a Laptop than as a console.
By not "use" it while Docked I meant anything that requieres touching it.
But yes. For me, the main purpose of the Dock will be multi-monitor + Ethernet + stand + USB Hub for KB and mouse.

I'm really not too terribly interested in using it docked. I'm plan on sitting in my Lazy Boy with it while the wife watches all her crime dramas and fills up notebooks with tips on how to get away with the perfect murder. I wonder why she does that....
Tottaly not related.
Did you know the Deck is a PC?
I'm quite confident about that there should be games that run some code in you Deck so you can use it as a Panic button.
I mean. Just for fun. 🙄
