Hello all,

loving my deck 512gb!

i just found out this morning that there is such a thing as A/R glasses that make your handheld screen look huge and I guess it’s more immersive. Just started doing research

can anyone advise what the best ones are (in the US preferably). I probably would not want to spend more than $500-600 if possible,

is this new technology? Is it any good? I’d prefer answers from someone who is currently using them or who has done a bunch of research and is ready to pull the trigger.

i also don’t want something that’s large, cumbersome and uncomfortable (used to have the PS4 VR)

thanks!

first of all, congrats on getting your steam deck. 🥳🎉

now as much as I'm interested and hyped over the future of AR and VR tech, (though I don't have the budget for those yet unfortunately 😅)
I couldn't track down anything resembling the "Bear smart A/R glasses" that you mentioned...

I did find a list of AR glasses over here:

but alas I could not find the glasses you were talking about... could it have been just a typo or something? or could you share a link perhaps, on where you found it?

I swear I can't find it, here's an image of a bear wearing VR glasses instead if you're interested. 😉

Hey markipolo,

you guess it….typo! I was in a hurry this morning when I typed this 🙃.
Yes I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience using AR glasses with the Deck and if so are there any in particular to recmmend?

Thanks!

oh, I see, it was a typo. Bummer, now my joke comments are irrelevant. (just kidding) 😜

sadly I have no experience with AR glasses, although I'm interested with them and keep up with the news.

also, may I ask what exactly is the use case for using AR glasses along with the steam deck at the same time?

it doesn't seem that there's any programs that would add an enhanced experience per se, to the steam deck when you'd use it along with AR glasses.
would it be useful for things like HUD, or receiving notifs, etc.

for context I was thinking of something like the nintendo 3DS.

Hey there! Nah, your joke was still very well done! I don’t really care about VR capabilities. My limited understanding is that once you wear the A/R’s it makes the screen look very large, that’s what I am seeking; a large screen while still having portability. Another plus for me is no stiff neck etc from staring downwards to the Deck.

I just started looking into these yesterday, but so far I got the impression that they’re really not perfected yet; a few of the interesting ones are on a Kickstarter campaign etc.

the most interesting ones IMO are the Nugaming Pro 3e smart glasses, but i think id need to get prescription lenses installed as I am not sure if the range built in for corrective vision will correct my nearsightedness

ohhh, Ok... I get what you're talking about now.

so it's something about the AR glasses that magnifies the screen of the steam deck, making it look and feel bigger? 🤔

somwhat like these smartphone/phone magnifiers I see online, although I don't really like them, or even tried them, just watch some review of them on YouTube.

or maybe I'm just confused?

Yep, thats right….supposedly you put the glasses on, connect to the deck and it’s as if your sitting in front of a large screen. I don’t care if there’s no VR etc, just think it’d be cool. From what I’ve read so far, there aren’t any very good ones yet except for maybe some that are uber expensive

I found a thread on reddit mentioning this thread, and one of them responded with a AR glasses video. have you seen this video? 😁

Yep,I’ve seen it, thanks for sending! I am almost positive I am going to end up with the Viture glasses. They are still on a kickstarter campaig; so I either buy now and hope for the best, or wait for them to be released and read the reviews before I buy them

😎👍 Nice, looks like a good pick, I took a look at their Kickstarter page, and they definitely fit your budget given what you mentioned in your original post...

That is, if you aren't aiming for the higher priced packages with extras, and just the basic Kickstarter deal. 😅

I also took a look at their steamdeck review, and it seems promising...

also according to the kickstarter timeline, they'll be shipping beta units to the early backers.

overall, to me the unit looks good. Your choice ultimately if you're gonna go early or late, waiting for reviews. 😁

Thanks for the feedback! Well I’d go all out with the full package (already got Wifely Authorization) 😁.
I can save $100 by preordering now, but thinking of waiting due to the reasons above ^^^
